It’s always exciting and a bit scary too starting something new. This is something that’s been playing around in my mind for a long time, and so towards the end of 2018, I finally took the plunge and hit publish on my dream. I didn’t know what to expect. I’d read and explored a lot of other online zines and literary journals. Yes, it seems that everyone has one, but I never found one quite like what I was looking for. So here we are.
Quite honestly, I didn’t know if I’d receive any submissions. But they kept rolling in and soon I had an inbox of treasures. So many writers trusting me with their writing and their thoughts. As a writer, I am frequently on the other side of this leap of faith, so I know what it takes to put your work out there like that, and I’m deeply grateful to every single writer who trusted me with their work.
The zine opens with a piece called Cleansing, appropriate I feel for the start of a new year and a new venture. We all seek to cleanse and renew ourselves, and New Year always feels like the right time to do it. It’s the chance for a new start, a new beginning. I imagine that as the year goes on, this zine will evolve, as I work with new voices and ideas, and find out what works and what doesn’t, but for now, here we are – at the beginning.
I hope you enjoy the pieces in this first issue. Please take the time to feedback to our writers and to follow them on their social media outlets if you enjoy their work.
Here’s to a year of new adventures, dreaming, doing, and creating.
